LET’S TELL WORLD LEADERS: CLIMATE NEGOTIATIONS ARE NOT A VACATION

We need you to help us make a video that will tell World Leaders this December that climate negotiations in Cancun, Mexico are not a vacation!
From November 29- December 10, World leaders will converge in Cancun, Mexico for the latest installment of climate change negotiations — known to the wonky as  COP16. You’ll probably remember this meeting from last year when it was in Copenhagen. Remember all the calls for action on climate change? The massive demonstrations? Over 100 presidents and heads of state converging at the 11th hour to hammer out a comprehensive agreement to hold the line on emissions and finally get serious about climate change?
This year, the whole thing is happening again except the meeting is in the prime vacation spot of Cancun and probably won’t feature so many Presidents and ambitious calls to action.
The game plan for the US now seems to be that climate solutions will need to be handled in “chunks.”
So, should we even care? Is this whole thing about taking a vacation?
We at The Nature Conservancy want to tell the world’s leaders this is not a vacation, that climate change is a real and urgent issue with serious consequences.
We want real action on climate change. And, we want you to help. So here’s what you do:
Step 1: Download and Print out a copy of our “This is Not a Vacation” poster at the bottom of this post.
Step 2: Fire up the web cam, or your flip cam, or any kind of cam.
Step 3: Hold up the sign and make a video that starts: “This is not a vacation, we need real climate action because …” and tell us why you want to see action on climate change.
Step 4: Then take that video and post it wherever you’d like on the internet (your own YouTube accountFlickr accountVimeo account, whatever) and post a link to it in the comments section of this post.
Or send us a link to it on twitter to @nature_org with the hash tag: #notavacation
Or post it to our facebook page
We’ll take those responses, stitch them together and bring a video to Cancun to remind world leaders: “This is not a vacation!”
